Battling vacationitis

When I was in high school, senioritis was the commonly acknowledged phenomenon of young men and women in their final year of high school who anticipated being done with it to the point of hardly being able to sit still, much less actually pay attention to lectures. People with senioritis might skip classes more often than they'd ever been known to do before and/or consistently fail to turn in homework, though they'd been diligent enough before.

What I have these days is a case of vacationitis. I'm going on vacation starting Saturday, but my body and mind have decided that's not quite soon enough. They lure me into reading for enjoyment when I should be working, which is exactly why I'm writing this post so late at night. I finished a 700-page book today. I'm tired. Hence, this will be short.

ROW80 Update
"A Round of Words in 80 Days is the writing challenge that knows you have a life."

Show up to writing 2-3 hours/day.
Showed up to it on Thursday & Friday of last week; finished a short story. Accomplished all I wanted to on Monday, including starting a first draft of a new short story. Didn't write yesterday. Only wrote a little today. My goal for the rest of this week is do actually show up for writing time in the morning, as scheduled, instead of telling myself I'll do it in the evening.

Be an active ROW80 sponsor.
On track.

Read for fun. On track. Finished reading The Moon and Sixpence late last week and then on Monday started reading Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb. Finished it today.

Continue posting twice a week on this blog.
Yes, I published a post about possible gift ideas for readers and writers on Friday and this post today. This coming Friday I finally get to bring you my interview with first-time author E. S. Gibson, whose YA speculative fiction novella was published just last month. Yay!

  1. I am late as usual. Sounds like your day was tedious, 700 page book sounds like something worth to read. After new years I will pick up more ebooks to read.

  2. Sounds a lot like me the last two weeks, well in between my theatre projects, that is. Can't focus, would rather be sleeping, reading, or watching Christmas specials.

Where are you going on Vacay? Hope it's somewhere nice, warm, or at least enjoyable. :-) Have a wonderful, holiday if I don't say it again before next Thursday!

  3. Showing up to write. This I will remember. Between doubt and simply being tired, I'm far closer to sinking into a chair and grabbing my Kindle. But I will show up to write. Thank you! Now, let go and enjoy that vacation!
